Pornhub gets cut off by VISA and Mastercard – King of porn says yes to cryptocurrency

X-Rated Cryptos – A few months ago, we learned that the X Pornhub site is crypto-friendly, since it announced that it accepts Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC) . But there is a plethora of cryptocurrencies that are now joining the game, with the addition of Monero (XMR) among others. The site will therefore now accept no less than 13 different cryptos in total.

Cryptos as the only means of payment?

As the Bitcoin.com site explains , the Pornhub company had some financial worries related to the refusal of Visa and Mastercard payment processors to continue to handle credit card payments in some parts of the world.

The tenth most visited site on the internet, with 42 billion visits in 2019, was therefore forced to only accept payments by Bitcoin Revolution in a few countries, so that its premium customers can continue to pay their monthly subscription .

For this, the adult video site currently goes through the crypto payment processor ProBiller . In addition to Bitcoin and Litecoin accepted since September, Site X also accepts: Monero (XMR), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin cash (BCH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Nem (XEM), Tether (USDT), Tron (TRX), Verge (XVG), Waves (WAVES), Zcash (ZEC) and DASH .

Some areas still on fiat payments

As the crypto-media The Block points out , cryptocurrencies have not become Pornhub’s only means of payment on the whole planet.

Indeed, this obligation would mainly include North America (the United States alone representing nearly 24% of traffic), the United Kingdom and Singapore . But in some European countries, such as Germany , the Netherlands or France , it is still possible to pay through direct payment methods, in fiat currencies , by SEPA bank transfer.

The conflict between Visa, Mastercard and Pornhub had emerged following the impact of an article in the New York Times , accusing the platform of hosting child pornography but also rape sequences . The site would, in turn, first denied, then finally took recently of measures under pressure.
